My Mom passed away in January 2011 and I wanted to make a tribute in her memory to something that would be meaningful and enduring. The chance to plant a tree at Hemisfair was perfect because Mom loved the outdoors - gardens, birds, butterflies, and green space. The tree I planted for her overlooks Yanaguana Garden within earshot of the joy of children's laughter. Mom would have loved it. For me, it means a lot to channel my sense of loss into something that many can enjoy. It is a great tribute to the strong and independent woman she was - the branches for me represent how far-reaching her mark was on so many. I miss you, Mom.
