Susan Goltsman, FASLA

July 9th, 1949 - September 15th, 2016

Instilling a love of play, connecting people with nature—and with each other—and building a sense of belonging for people of all backgrounds and abilities… these were Susan Goltsman’s passions.

A world-renowned landscape architect, innovator, and fierce advocate for inclusive and equitable design that promotes healthy growth, Susan dedicated her life to helping communities thrive.

One of Susan’s proudest achievements was the transformation of the 4-acre parcel of land in Downtown San Antonio into Yanaguana Garden (this park!), a magical spot where play, nature, and imagination meet.

Susan’s zoos, parks, and play areas across the country are beautiful to behold, but she always understood their true purpose:

“Design is not our end goal. Our end goal is to connect people to each other.”
