Hilde and John Maeckle

Hilde and John Maeckle, known affectionately as “Oma” and “Opa,” built a great life based on hard work, frugality, a focus on family and love of Nature. They emigrated to Texas from Germany in 1953 on a freighter. Opa’s history as a craftsman and Oma’s attention to detail served them well in launching John Maeckle Construction Company in Richardson, a Dallas suburb. There, Opa built custom homes and Oma oversaw the books. Their hard work paid off for their children, John Michael, who enjoyed a successful career in sales, and Monika, the family’s first college graduate and media and marketing exec/author. Oma and Opa loved to dance and cook and eat great food. Their “polka parties” were a mainstay of family life and always ended with a toast of Kirschwasser, a German cherry Schnapps. Rest in peace, dear Oma and Oma. You are always loved, never forgotten, forever missed.
